LVR-880

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the range of the LVR-880? There is not set range. The range is effected greatly by the installation. VHF radios operate by line of sight. The higher the antenna is installed, the greater the range.
Where can I find a VHF antenna for my LVR-880? Any marine supply store should have them.  For this radio, the antenna should have at least 3db of gain.
Why can't I get weather on my LVR-880? The unit may be in an international mode and not searching for available US weather information. Press the H/L and WX buttons simultaneously to cycle between these two modes.

Can I monitor and receive VHF transmissions while listening to the FM band? If the FM radio is ON and the VHF gets a "squelch break," the VHF over-rides the FM during the time of the VHF talking and the reversion back to FM is 5 seconds after VHF squelch break goes away.
What does USCG CFR-46 standard mean? This is a standard testing method used to define waterproof. The product must withstands 65 gallons (US) of water per minute sprayed through a 1" nozzle from 3.048m (10') for at least 5 min.
What channel do I use on the LVR-880? This depends greatly on what you want to say and who you want to speak with. This is explained in the manual some. A breif desription is also supplied here.

What is an MMSI number? Why do I need an MMSI number? Where do I get an MMSI number for using the LVR-880? MMSI stands for Maritime Mobile Service Identity. This is like a phone number. You must enter this number of the other party you wish to make a DSC call to. Other parties must also know your MMSI number before the can make a DSC call to you. To register for a unique MMSI number, select this link.
What if I make a mistake entering my MMSI number? Please see your local dealer for assistance.
What is the difference between Simplex and Duplex? The channel in use for communication may be either. If the channel is a Simplex channel, the channel uses only one frequency for transmitting and receiving signals. This makes communication similar to a CB where only one party can talk at a time. Duplex channels actually operate on two different frequencies allow for the radio to transmit and receive at the same time. This is similar to your telephone.
Why does the LVR-880 cut me off after 5 minutes of transmitting? After 5 minutes of constant transmission, the LVR-250 will end transmitting. This is required by the FCC. Simply end a transmission before this time and start your transmission again.
Will my radio work with an NMEA 2000 network? No, it operates on NMEA 0183 (RS-232).
Can I use this radio in Canada? Yes!  However, go to this site to learn about the certification required.  http://www.cps-ecp.ca/english/VHF_ad.htm
What is the FCC ID # for the LVR-880? EP78TQ LVR-880
